This commentary was submitted by IWRAW Asia Pacific and partner organisations Akanksha Seva Sadan, the Asia Feminist LBQ Network, Bonhishikha, the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW), Nirantar Trust, the Women’s Legal Centre (WLC), and Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA). It provides feminist perspectives on the draft text of CEDAW General Recommendation no. 41 on gender stereotypes. It examines the opportunities and challenges of addressing gender stereotypes, highlighting concerns around state discretion, meaningful implementation, and the importance of intersectionality and the participation of women in all their diversity in developing effective laws, policies, and interventions.
