"Equality as an evolving process”
An Overview
IWRAW Asia Pacific has continuously raised the awareness that the principles of non-discrimination and equality must be promoted at every opportunity in order to provide the normative standards to advance women's rights. We have emphasised the importance of sustained activism and the significance of putting together an evolving process for achieving equality.
The Programmatic Strategy
Our mission is implemented through a strategic approach. At the core are two interrelated strategies, Building Capacity for Change and Enhancing Realization of Rights. These two key programme strategies are supported by two other functional strategies, IDEAS (Information Dissemination exchange and Application Strategy) and Institution Building.
The synergy of all the four strategies is clearly reflected in the two cross-strategy programmes of IWRAW Asia Pacific: The From Global to Local and our National-Regional Women’s Human Rights Implementation Strategies.
Using a CEDAW Framework

Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating IWRAW Asia Pacific’s Conceptual and Operational Framework translated into multipronged strategies to implement CEDAW as well as activities, target groups and methods of engagements. It also aims at capturing the synergies and the inter-relatedness of our work and reflect our attempt to grapple with the emerging and evolving issues and trends in women's human rights.
Our regional and international activities are not implemented as separate components but rather as means that add value to local activism. We have worked consistently with women's groups at the national level, gradually building their capacity and partnering with them in putting together the processes for achieving equality through a rights-based framework.
