After the CEDAW Committee has conducted a constructive dialogue with the government delegation of a reporting States party and considered the report presented by them, it produces a review in the form of Concluding Observations.
Concluding Observations were formerly known as Concluding Comments, and they:
- Highlight accomplishments, shortcomings and obstacles that a reporting States party has faced in its implementation of the CEDAW Convention.
- Identify areas of concern and suggest recommendations for further action.
A State party is urged to respond to the issues raised in the Concluding Observations in its following periodic report to the CEDAW Committee. As such, Concluding Observations are particularly important and can serve as the focus of future advocacy initiatives.
